Live Twice Refreshes Menu With Cocktails Inspired by Geishas, Changing Seasons

An original concept by Jigger & Pony Group, Live Twice is a mid-century modern Tokyo inspired cocktail bar named after Ian Fleming’s 1964 novel You Only Live Twice - the only work featuring the debonair spy in Asia. The cinematic bar, characterized by the Japanese ethos of shokunin craftsmanship, is launching a refreshed and distinct three-fold menu. One Life for Yourself sees modern interpretation of classic cocktails, ...And One for Your Dreams features whimsical creations taking inspiration from geisha personalities, while Seasonal Cocktails evoke taste memories of the different seasons.

Dreamt up by Principal Bartender David Kim and Jigger & Pony Group’s Creative Director Uno Jang, the new menu  reflects the bar’s desire to be a space where cocktail lovers – people who lead successful, dynamic lives by day but whose most authentic selves come out to play when night falls – come together.

One Life for Yourself

Midori Last Word

Illuminated by colours of a peridot, look forward to a fruity spin on the pre-Prohibition classic in Midori Last Word. Bitter and floral notes of Hendrick’s Orbium Gin harmonises with homemade Chartreuse and Tatsumi Absinthe, while sweet melon liqueur balances out the herbacity. Deliciously complex yet refreshing, it’s served in a handcrafted Kimura Kikatsu series glass and garnished with a fresh black cherry.

Cacao Fizz

A classic popularised in Japan and Korea in the 1990s, Live Twice’s version of the Cacao Fizz takes on bolder flavours and a heavier body. Dark stout reduction highlights Bacardi Reserva Ocho Rum’s oaky vanilla notes and is completed with a splash of prosecco. The frothy top and velvety smooth texture reminds one of sipping on a decadent chocolate stout. A staple at Live Twice since 2019, the Mizuwari is improved with a blend of Suntory Chita Single Grain Whisky and Yamazaki Distiller’s Reserve Whisky. Aged together with soft water sourced from Hokkaido in a ceramic urn, also known as a tsubo, enjoy the ceremony of service. The liquid is carefully transferred to a mixing jar to be stirred down with ice, before going into a cracked-ice chilled tall glass.

Bamboo

Introducing Discarded Chardonnay Vodka to the originally spiritless cocktail, Bamboo retains its dry and nutty profile with Lustau Fino Sherry and dry vermouth. Layering fruit and floral notes through the spirit base, elderflower liqueur, and lavender bitters, the drink is elegantly luscious and rounded on the palate.

...And One for Your Dreams

Taking their poetic names from geishas, Japanese female performers of traditional arts, the cocktails on this list reflect the duality of life. Simple, yet unrestrained with an innovative edge, guests are encouraged to live for their dreams at Live Twice.

Delicate Moon

For a wondrous night, the gorgeous ruby red tint of Delicate Moon 紗月 belies its gentle and nuanced flavours. Fruit interlaces with oak and aromatic herbs as pomegranate vermouth and non-alcoholic spirit Melati Classic build on the backbone of Monkey Shoulder Scotch Whisky. It’s finished with rosemary tonic water for a dreamy and delightful drink. Served in a Kimura Bambi glass, Tiny Petals 豆花 is small in size, but big in impact. Earthy Código 1530 Blanco Tequila meets fruity plum spirit in this spirit-forward cocktail, rounded with light floral aromas of jasmine tea and freshness from Tatsumi Yaso Yes Dog Gin. It is definitely one for the explorers, as delicate flavours come out to play on your palate.

Evergreen

One for tea lovers, Evergreen 幾松 blends creamy matcha with the roasted notes of oolong tea. Smoothed and lengthened by sweet toffee tones of Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva Rum, the cocktail recalls memories of spring in Kyoto while strolling down the Togetsukyo Bridge. All cocktails are priced at S$28++ each. Happy Hour runs 6pm to 8pm daily, with selected cocktails at S$18++.

A Convivial Enclave on Bukit Pasoh Road

Co-located in a 1930s heritage shophouse with ingredient-driven cocktail bar Gibson and modern seafood restaurant Humpback, Live Twice completes the Group’s lifestyle destination on Bukit Pasoh Road. In addition to the cosmopolitan cocktails, guests can look forward to a food menu of elevated izakaya offerings and yōshoku dishes. The bar now also runs a late night food menu, with last orders at 11pm Sundays to Thursdays and 1am on Fridays & Saturdays.

Wagyu Sando

A style of Western-influenced Japanese cooking, yōshoku originated during the Meiji era. Live Twice’s signature sandos, such as the Tamago Katsu Sando (S$24++) and the indulgent Wagyu Katsu Sando (S$44++) fall under this food group.

Wagyu Curry Rice Bowl

A new addition is the Wagyu Curry Rice Bowl (S$22++), also available on the bar’s late night food menu. Wagyu beef slices are cooked in thick curry with potatoes and carrots, and served over short-grain Haenuki rice for a comforting supper of familiar flavours. More late night hunger pangs can be solved through snacks like Fried Baby Squid (S$16++) and Tempura Shishito Peppers (S$16++).

Located at 18-20 Bukit Pasoh Road, Singapore 089834, Live Twice is open daily: 6pm to 12pm on Sundays to Tuesdays; 6pm to 1am on Wednesdays & Thursdays; and 6pm to 2am on Fridays & Saturdays.
