Whisky Reviews

Mars Komagatake, 1988-2014, Sherry Cask no. 568, 498 bottles, 46% abv.

This 26 year old Japanese Whisky... from Mars... heard these are hit or miss, with misses mostly coming from those non-conventional bottle shapes. Please let his be a hit!

Nose: a faint hint of peat, soured milk, paper, expired wood, burnt bread crust, not too offensive, but almost there.

Palate: weird, initial palate is a weird sourness like a pickled sour curd, mid palate builds up to milk curds/spoiled milk, gaseous, light road asphalt, what in the world is going on?!?!, back palate has the expired smoked wood come out, young tofu. Damn, why'd I try this?

Finish: medium, more of the same weirdness.

What the heck happened?! I am grateful to have tried these rare, older Mars, but man... does give me street cred, or at least I hope it does. I like to throw away money, might as well make it my hobby.
