Laphroaig 21, Exclusively for Friends of Laphroaig, 35cl, 48.4% abv.
This travel retail, half size bottle was part of Laphroiag's 200th Anniversary releases which also include the 15, 16 (half bottle), 32, and 2015 Cairdeas. It was distilled throughout 1993 and matured in first fill ex-bourbon barrels, which were both air-dried and kiln-dried. Interestingly, the 21 FoL was initially sold by ballot, but since it wasn't very popular, they put it on the website. Seems like Laphroaig has/had some sales operations issues.
Nose: wood and smoke, faint hint of cherries.
Palate: initial and mid palate was sour wood, back palate is light smoked wood.
Finish: short, a little bitter.
Very light, the peat is light on this, along with the accompanying smoke. A light wood and salt are the dominant flavors again. I can see why it's story isn't the best.
