Joseph Magnus Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Batch No. 16, 573/892, 50% abv.

A triple cask finished Washington D.C. based bourbon with an interesting backstory. It starts wbrhe modern descendants of Joseph A. Magnus discovered one of their ancestor's old bottles. From there on, the children of Magnus revived the brand by employing some talented personnel to recreate the old juice. The interesting thing was that a blend from MGP was the most similar to what the family and group tasted, with the current version consisting of bourbons aged in white oak and finished in Oloroso Sherry, Pedro Ximenez Sherry, and Cognac casks.

Nose: bourbon sweetness, honey, brown sugar,  milk chocolate, a hint of cherries.

Palate: not sweet, very sharp impulse of young tofu, after a few sips only the young tofu/bitter tea leaf/old steamed lotus leaves. These flavors remains but in a relatively lighter sense, some oak and wood.

Finish: strong and sharp, wood.

Didn't really enjoy this one. Even though the nose was good, the flavors just weren't there, they were actually all over the place. Not sure if it's me, but I'm beginning to wonder about these famous drams. Had this at 7 Grand, Los Angeles, USA.
