Glenmorangie the Duthac, Legends, 43% abv.

Glenmorangie the Duthac, Legends, 43% abv.

In the town of Tain, there is a shrine dedicated to Saint Duthac. King James IV would visit this shrine annually for blessings and prayers. The Glenmorangie distillery is also in the town of Tain. This release is dedicated to Saint Duthac and was the first in the Legends Collection. Interestingly, depending on which sources and interpretation, Glenmorangie Duthac is either aged in ex-Bourbon casks and finished in PX Sherry and Virgin Oak casks, OR whisky matured in refill ex-bourbon casks combined with some PX sherry matured whisky and charred Virgin Oak casks. If the latter is true, then this makes it a potential single blend?

Nose: domimant honey and slight wood, medicinal.

Palate: smooth in, nutty, lemon without the citrus, a little rough in the back. Interestingly, I could feel that old steamed lotus leaves trying to peak out but it never did.

Finish: slow, light smoke and maybe some peat, some wood.

The texture was a little different, seems like the finish was a little strange, being pulled between a few casks, but other than that it's pretty normal stuff. The cask finishing didn't help in my opinion. Had this at Bar 31B, Seoul, South Korea.

Grade: C
