WhistlePig Challenges Innovation With Release Of New Snout-To-Tail 10 Year Old Bourbon
Also renowned for its rye whiskey offerings, this Whistlepig expression is aged 10 years and crafted with a double-barrel-head aging process. It consists of quite the peculiar makeup: Two barrels that comprise the period of the "snout" and "tail" of the process.
For the "snout", it employs a Vermont oak cask with a medium toast, while the "end" comprises of a Vermont oak smoked maple wood toast cask. Each barrel is flipped 180 degrees during aging, a process said to improve on its complexity.
“The equal and opposite of our flagship 10-year rye, Snout-to-Tail Bourbon takes toasted barrel aging to ten with bold flavors and new complexity earned before and after the barrel flip. With honey, brown sugar and toasted cashew on the ‘snout,’ roasted almonds and baked cornbread on the sip, and a fresh crust and cedar ‘tail,’ it’s Straight Bourbon Whiskey born to crash the party in Kentucky.”
Bottled at 88 proof, the expression promises notes of rich caramel, vanilla, and smoky maple notes. The bourbon is distilled at an undisclosed Kentucky distillery and bottled at WhistlePig's facilities in Mineville, New York.
The WhistlePig Snout-to-Tail Bourbon has a MSRP of $89.99 for a 750 ml bottle and will be available at shops, bars and restaurants across the United States.
WhistlePig has also announced that it will be inaugurating a new permanent location in Louisville, Kentucky - that is the spiritual home of Bourbon - which will be named The WhistlePig PiggyBank, and will be housed in Bank Shot Billiards, an actual historic bank. Fans who head on over should expect to taste wide range of WhistlePig expressions and "other ham hijinx". And at the heart of the PiggyBank will be the Vault, which will put on display some of WhistlePig's most sought after expressions!
