The Balvenie Unveils Second Expression In Its The Fifty Collection, It's Rarest Collection To Date

The Balvenie has announced The Second Edition, the second expression in its much coveted The Fifty Collection. Only 97 bottles will be available globally, marking one of the rarest releases ever from The Balvenie Distillery.

Malt Master David C. Stewart, came together with a team of The Balvenie craftspeople in 1973 to fill the cask. The brand has said the expression has notes of molten dates, sweet soft currants, warming oak and a subtle citrus zest, layered over sweet, creamy honey with a buttery finish.

To expand the profile, rare expressions of two casks filled in 1973: the inaugural European oak refill butt and a second American oak hogshead were blended to create the final expression.

The Fifty Collection comprises three individual bottlings - The First, Second, and Third
Editions - and is said to be a tribute to tradition, expertise, and the enduring spirit of The Balvenie.

McKechnie said: “The Balvenie Fifty Collection pays tribute to the makers, craftspeople and custodians who have watched over our liquid for the past five decades.”

Speaking about The Second Edition, she said: "This profile was chosen to
complement the European oak influence of The First Edition, creating a marriage of casks that brings both contrast and continuity to the flavour thread running through the trilogy.”

Croglin, a bespoke craft workshop in Cumbria, developed the intricate packaging for The Fifty Collection. The presentation features over 100 elements, including seven ultra-thin wood layers and a 14-carat gold-plated brass display.

For this Second Edition, the wood grain will display a darker stain compared to the inaugural release, and each hand-blown bottle will be individually numbered.

Alongside The Second Edition’s launch in Singapore, customers shopping exclusively at Paneco and Grand Cru Wines can receive a The Balvenie Leather Carrier when they purchase a twin-bottle set of The Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old or Sweet Toast of American Oak 14 Year Old, or with any single bottle of The Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14 Year Old.  Separately, those shopping at Georges outlets will receive a ceramic cup and coaster set when they purchase a twin-bottle set of The Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14 Year Old.

Bottled at 49.8% ABV, the The Balvenie Fifty Second Edition can be purchased exclusively through The Distillers Library in Singapore.
