Aberargie Distillery Readies Its First Single Malt, Marking Morrison Family's Return To The Category
(L-R): Graeme Mackeddie (head of distilling), Lauren Doherty (Brand manager), and Niel Hendriksz (Managing Director) at Aberargie Distillery.
Aberargie Distillery is set to launch its first single malt in March 2026. The Lowlands distillery was established in 2017 by the Morrison family, 23 years after the sale of Morrison Bowmore Distillers in 1994 to Suntory.
Its first expression is a ‘barley-to-bottle’ single malt Scotch whisky, made from a heritage barley variety called the Golden Promise.
Graeme Mackeddie, head of distilling at Aberargie Distillery, said: “Since filling our first casks in 2017, we’ve been patiently waiting for the moment Aberargie would be ready to share with the world. With 100 days to go until the inaugural release, there’s a real sense of excitement and anticipation across the distillery team.
“Aberargie’s inaugural release is a flavour-first whisky shaped by heritage barley, natural depth and a strong sense of place. It embodies years of committed farming, meticulous distillation and thoughtful maturation – all carried out here on family ground. It’s an important milestone for everyone here at Aberargie, and we can’t wait to share this with whisky fans next year.”

The Morrison family is one of Scotland's oldest whisky families. Since 2020, the Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers (Formerly known as Morrison and Mackay), are owned by father-and-son team Brian and Jamie Morrison, continuing a family tradition spanning more than five generations.
The Morrison family’s history in whisky includes Brian’s grandfather, William Walker, a whisky broker, and his son Stanley, who notably purchased Islay’s oldest distillery, Bowmore, in 1963. The business then would come to be known as the Morrison Bowmore Distillers, counting under its portfolio the Auchentoshan, Bowmore, and Glen Garioch distilleries.
The 100-day countdown to Aberargie’s inaugural single malt release, will begin this Sunday, St Andrew’s Day (30 November). Early access registration is currently available on the distillery’s website.
