Drawing inspiration from the ‘darker, more mystical side’ of Barra, Isle of Barra Distillers has released their Scottish black forest rum, a dark rum infused with with wild cherry and blackcurrant.

Said to boast dark forest flavours lifted with bright orange peel and mellowed by coconut, the brand promises a nose with a ‘soft coastal character’ that leads into ‘ripe black cherry and dark berry fruit, layered with caramel and vanilla’.

On the palate, ‘rich black cherry takes the lead, while the finish is ‘long and warming’.

The brand recommends using the rum in cocktails like their signature Black Forest Rum Old Fashioned, which combines 50ml of the spirit with black cherry syrup and aromatic bitters.

Bottled at 38% ABV, the expression has an MSRP of £36 (US$48).
