Ireland's Teeling Whiskey To Be Fully Acquired By Bacardi

One of Ireland's most illustrious whiskey-making families will now come under the umbrella of drinks giant Bacardi.

Bacardi has had a foot in the Teeling door as early as 2017, first with a minority stake, which was later bolstered into the drinks giant taking the role of majority shareholder in the Irish distillery by 2023. In 2026, it has been announced that Bacardi will fully acquire Ireland's Teeling whiskey.

Founded in 2012, Teeling Whiskey was founded by brothers Jack and Stephen Teeling, whose family has been in the Irish whiskey scene from as far back as 1782, when Walter Teeling would establish a distillery in The Liberties region of Dublin, later selling the distillery to the Jameson family. The Teeling brothers' father, John Teeling, would subsequently establish the Cooley Distillery in 1987, bringing back independent distilling to Ireland after an over 100 year hiatus. Nevertheless the distillery would be acquired by Beam (of today's Suntory) in 2012.

As part of Bacardi's ownership, Teeling Whiskey is said to have more than doubled its size, with exports to over 80 markets worldwide, since 2017.

The full acquisition of Teeling Whiskey by Bacardi will nevertheless see both Jack and Stephen Teeling continue to remain with the brand, as Bacardi has confirmed.
