Glengoyne Unveils Wetlands Single Cask Release In Support of Highland Wetlands Conservation

Glengoyne Distillery has launched a brand new expression for a good cause: the conservation of its Highland wetlands home.

The Glengoyne Wetlands Single Cask Release is set to generate a £5,000 (US$6,574) donation to support Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust's (WWT) conservation work.

The distillery has long had a partnership with the charity. A wetland restoration charity, it has looked after the UK’s natural habitats through programmes such as Blue Recovery Fund and the ‘Wetlands Can!’ campaign.

Glengoyne is famous for being the first Scottish distillery to adopt a wetlands facility for all of its liquid waste, when it developed its natural wastewater treatment system with WWT in 2011.

Not only does the system cut the distillery’s waste by 25%, but it also actively fosters a thriving environment for local wildlife and plants.

The distillery has said the expression's nose brings notes of citrus, kiwi, ripe fig, milk chocolate, while the palate is described as ‘typically Glengoyne in character’ with tangerine, peach, toffee, subtle spices, malt and sweet oak.

The finish is said to include soft citrus, dried fruits, gently drying oak and cream Sherry. The whisky was aged in refill Sherry butt No. 190257, which was filled on 8 June 2009.

The label for the new expression was designed by Welsh illustrator Elin Manon, where she married blends the distillery's visage with the surrounding wetlands and the iconic geese of the Glengoyne valley.

Bottled at 61.1% ABV, each expression in the 500-bottle batch is priced at £190 (US$250). It is available at the Glengoyne Distillery store, website and at selected WWT sites.
