Ron Centenario 20

The Centenario 20 rum comes to us from Costa Rica, but would in fact be of Panamanian origin, and aged and bottled in Costa Rica. It is a rum aged according to the Solera method which is between 6 and 7 years old on average (20 being the age of the oldest rum used in this blend, a tiny quantity).

The aging would be done in Bourbon barrels. The conditional is appropriate since no information appears on the bottle or the packaging, nor on their site, and despite repeated questions from many Internet enthusiasts, it is the greatest silence...

This rum has an amber color with copper highlights.

The nose is delicately fruity, very smooth without any smell of alcohol.
The fruit is very ripe (banana) and stewed (apple), with notes of red fruits. All caramelized and sweet with a fine spicy/woody note (tobacco, cinnamon).

Work and rest bring out more precisely the woody note (tobacco) as well as dried fruits (nuts, figs, dates)

On the palate, the attack is as sweet as the nose, relatively mellow; still on the fruitiness which becomes more exotic than the nose, with a bitterness at the end, enhanced by a hint of warming spice (cinnamon, white pepper), and a little tangy side (citrus zest).

The finish is long and warming ; we discover a fairly persistent smoky side (peppery/tobacco note) which contrasts with the sweet side and makes the whole thing quite interesting.

This Centenario 20 is similar to Zacapa 23, less complex but softer; it is a very pleasant rum to taste, rather reserved at the end of a meal, which will satisfy lovers of the genre. Too bad there is such an impressive lack of information about it… we would like a minimum of transparency, if not total transparency… one day perhaps

Note : 67

To help you (and me) find your way around, regarding the notes:

90 and + : exceptional and unique rum, it is the best of the best
between 85 and 89 : highly recommended rum, with that little something that makes the difference
between 80 and 84 : recommendable rum
75-79 POINTS : above average
70-74 POINTS : in the low average
less than 70 : not very good
