This Dictador 20 rum comes to us from Colombia.
This is a blend of rums aged "between 14 and 24 years" which have undergone double distillation before being aged in oak barrels and matured using the Solera method . It is therefore difficult to give it an age.
Beyond its beautiful orange-copper color , we immediately notice a sweet smell of coffee; a smell that remains and becomes even stronger once the glass is empty. Notes of caramel and vanilla, a discreet smell of nuts, a fruity freshness that is quite interesting and pleasant. A spicy note arrives at the end.
In the mouth, we have the impression of finding the same aromatic palette but mixed in a syrupy whole, as if all the aromas had melted in a kind of caramel. With always this note of coffee quite present. The attack is silky, very pleasant, and finely woody.
The finish is long and caramelized with a hint of grilled spices and a citrus note.
Here we have a 'melting' rum; those who appreciate rums made using the Solera method will find what they are looking for: a rich and sweet aromatic palette, a smoothness and a length in the mouth close to the sweet. We can sense that beyond this we might be crossing the limit of this practice, because its caramelized aspect could disturb some people. But one thing is certain: this is a rum that is unlike any other.
