Capital Brewing First Tracks Imperial Stout x Johnny Cash – At Folsom Prison

HELLO I’M CAPITAL BREWING. 😊

The next pick comes from a jail of all places. Country music legend Johnny Cash walked into California’s Falsom State Prison on January 13th 1968. The best song picks from both shows were put together to create this classic live album, which showed up a startling look into American prison life.

The live shows have a rebellious attitude and there is a plea for compassion for those incarcerated, which are written by Johnny Cash in his liner notes and are shown in the way he pours out his heart and soul on stage. This show also really connects with the spirit of 1968, with the show standing up next to influential figures such as Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy who urged Americans to reach out to the disenfranchised and next to young Americans taking to the streets to protest war and inequality.

The reason Cash decided to play the show came from affinity for the downtrodden and receiving letters from inmates around the country asking him to play, after the release of “Folsom Prison Blues” in 1955, which was written when Cash was serving in Germany with the US Air Force and was inspired by the 1951 film, Inside the Walls of Folsom Prison. It became one of Cash’s signature songs, and had one of the most iconic lines in country music history; “But I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die.”

Now the beer, and the folks at Capital Brewing have whipped up perfectly malty, coffee filled boozy Winter stout to ride along with the tunes of Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Three. Brewed with freshly roasted beans from their mates at ONA Coffee, Capital Brewing Co First Tracks is a Coffee Imperial Stout with double the malts, double the coffee & double the booze, creating the most perfect, big & bold 10.5% Imperial Stout.
