The French 75
- 1 oz Gin (I use Beefeater Gin)
- .5oz Lemon Juice
- 2 Dashes Simple Syrup
Shake and strain into a champagne flute and top with champagne or prosecco if you're ballin' on a budget.
If you're looking for something new add a splash of St Germain to change this drink up a little.
According to legend this drink was created in France around WWI and gets its name from the powerful and unexpected kick from the added gin, which supposedly reminded people at the time of the French 75mm artillery piece. Alternate recipes call for cognac instead of gin, and one of the earliest known recipes uses calvados and grenadine.
