Four Nebbiolos from Sottimano, Cascina Fontana and Figli Luigi Oddero

Sottimano Langhe Nebbiolo 2015

On the nose, more power - hints of rose and vanilla. It’s a weighty style with some vanilla thyme and herbs, short finish. The effect of oak maturation is evident.

87/100

Sottimano Barbaresco Pajore 2016 (Nebbiolo)

Quite a weighty nose showing roses, clove, sweet baking spice, damp earth, truffle, oregano. On the palate, red cherries, rose, mint, menthol, clove, sweet baking spice, somewhat savoury in character, hints of truffle and licorice, well balanced with lots of Italian herbs, dried oregano and thyme.

93/100 probably WOTN along with the single vineyard Barolo.

Cascina Fontana Langhe Nebbiolo 2016

Traditional style - rose petals, light and perfumed on nose. On the palate, bright red cherries, raspberries, rose, clove, mint, menthol, silky tannins. Pretty good actually for a Langhe Nebbiolo and one I may consider buying for the price. 2016 was a standout year.

89-90/100

Figli Luigi Oddero Nebbiolo 2015

Compared to the previous one, this one is more weighty on the nose. The rose, clove, star anise, and herbs are there with some oak. On the palate, it’s more full bodied because of the oak, you get the rose, vanilla, some herbs such as dried thyme at the back.

89/100
