This bottle is from the popular The Chess Series by Shinanoya. I believe it was Shinanoyas first series selection and started in 2007. Very hard to find the older bottles.

Nose: smoke and wood. Ah, Islay mafia as expected.

Palate: smoke and wood, concentrated honey, the wood pops up but not too strong. This interesting honey flavor reminds me a little of Lagavulin though.

Finish: short, sweet grape juice coat.

Wow this is really good! Very simple and showcases it's core competency! A smokey malt and a honey essence. Borders on Port Ellen and Lagavulin, but this type of honey is unique!!! Is it really this good? Or am I super drunk? Then again I do have a soft spot for Islay mafia.

Grade: A-
