Mount Gay Single Estate Series Release 24 | 02 | Vt18d2

Our first proper rum party of 2025 at Bar Madame sharing some very tasty rums, including for the first time in Singapore Mount Gay’s Single Estate Series Release 24 | 02 | Vt18d2.

For the very first time, the Single Estate Series featured a single vintage harvest from July 2018 of four different cane cultivars, which were processed into molasses, and put through a very long fermentation of nine days, in comparison to Mount Gay’s standard of four. The molasses were then distilled through two different pot stills, #82 and #83, blended and aged for five years in ex-bourbon barrels. The result was an extremely youthful, fresh, and bright tasting rum, one that I could otherwise have mistaken for a rhum agricole. It had this tropicality of sorts, yellow fruits, coupled with citrus, and a distinctive grassy note which perhaps could explain why I had thought of it otherwise.
