The Macallan Debuts Carta Nautica Collection With 20 Year Old & 1987 Vintage

The Macallan has expanded its travel retail footprint with the launch of the Carta Nautica collection, a four-expression range headlined by a rare vintage release and a 20-Year-Old single malt available exclusively in global travel retail.

Named after the Spanish term for "nautical chart," the Carta Nautica collection traces a transcontinental journey connecting North America, Jerez, and Scotland.

Each expression is double-cask finished, initially matured in Sherry-seasoned oak casks from Jerez de la Frontera before being transferred into North American ex-Bourbon barrels.

The Carta Nautica was unveiled at the Tax Free World Association (TFWA) Exhibition & Conference in Cannes this week.

The line includes:

  • The GTR-exclusive Carta Nautica 20 Year Old
    • The 42% ABV GTR-exclusive whisky promises nose notes of orange peel, creamy vanilla, charred pineapple, mango, and apricot conserve. The palate is said to have flavors of peach tea, caramelised figs, leather and chocolate orange. The finish brings dried tropical fruits, caramel and toasted oak spice.

  • The Macallan Carta Nautica Distilled in 1987, available in GTR and domestically
    • Bottled at 45.2% ABV, the distillery promises aromas of caramelised peaches, rich oak, tropical pineapple and hint of pink grapefruit. On the palate one can expect oak, orange oil, berry compote and nectarines, alongside charred pineapple and leather.

  • The Macallan Carta Nautica, available in Latin America and Mexico
    • Bottled at 43% ABV, this expression is said to offer an aroma of tres leches cake, vanilla cream and fresh fruits, followed by flavours of white chocolate, floral honey, sweet melon, green apple and pear.
  • The Macallan Carta Nautica 105 Proof, a US-exclusive
    • Bottled at 52,5% ABV, this expression is said to have nose notes of nougat, vanilla and honeycomb, with almond brittle and lemon drizzle cake. The tasting notes for the palate are toffee, golden syrup, poached pear, green apple and candied orange.

For the release, The Macallan collaborated with American artist Amy Genser, who crafted the collection's packaging artwork.

Drawing inspiration from the movement of water and organic forms, Genser’s fluid visuals capture the maritime essence at the heart of the Carta Nautica narrative.

This artwork takes center stage across dedicated retail pop-ups, featuring intricate, wave-like textures set against a rich oceanic backdrop. This is further accented by The Macallan’s signature red hues, warm whisky-toned finishes, and illuminated arches.

The expression can be found on shelves in Changi Airport from Sep 28 to Oct 18, ahead of a wider rollout at select airports globally from Oct 19 with an MSRP of US$800.

The Macallan and Lotte Duty Free have promised two dedicated pop-ups at Changi, with the first in Terminal 3 for two months, before heading to Terminal 2 for an additional two months.

Shoppers can also visit a dedicated gifting station to personalize their bottle with a Changi-exclusive blue Merlion cap.
