Laphroaig Releases 35 Year Old Strong Characters – Chapter 2 Of The Strong Characters Series

Laphroaig has unveiled the second expression in its Strong Characters series, a 35 year old single malt.

The Strong Characters: Chapter 2 follows the earlier Chapter 1 release honouring co-founder Donald Johnston's legacy. It honours Donald's son Dugald Johnston, who carried his father Donald’s legacy forward and inherited the distillery after Donald’s untimely passing.

The artwork on the release is illustrated by award-winning British artist Bill Bragg known for his distinctive visual storytelling, with Dugald’s legacy transcribed onto every detail of the packaging as well as the commemorative booklet.

The expression is matured entirely in American white oak ex-bourbon casks, and is said to have layers of deep, comforting warmth with a  rich character over a bedrock of intense peat smoke.

Official Tasting Notes

Nose: Initial sweetness, followed by notes of freshly baked pastry, apple and cherry.

Palate: A pleasing smokiness to the fore, with spice on the palate. A creamy mouthfeel, with a light note of raisin in the background. 

Finish: Lingering aniseed taste, with a slight peppery tingle, fading slowly back to the original peat smoke.
