Malt Wine Asia Launches Glengoyne's 16 Year Old Mizunara Oak and Oak Masters Series In Singapore

Glengoyne Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is set to launch its highly sought-after 16-Year-Old Mizunara Oak and the new Oak Masters’ Series in Singapore, distributed by Singapore-based importer and distributor Malt Wine Asia.

The standout of the launch, the Glengoyne 16 Years Old Mizunara Oak, represents a bold departure for the distillery, showcasing a rare six-year maturation in virgin Mizunara casks from Hokkaido following 10 years in sherry and refill casks.

Whilst most distilleries have typically sought a few months of cask finishing with Mizunara oak due to how expensive and notoriously porous it is, Glengoyne, however, has opted for a significant six-year secondary ageing.

That patience is said to have blended the distillery's classic green apple and toffee notes with unmistakable Mizunara aromas of sandalwood, incense, and coconut.

The resulting masterpiece took home a Double Gold and a category trophy at the International Spirits Challenge. As part of the Glengoyne Oak Masters’ Series, this expression is joined by the White Oak range, which features both a non-age-statement release and a limited-edition 24-Year-Old.

Glengoyne White Oak

At 48% ABV, the White Oak is inspired by North America, the summer home of geese who grace the snow-capped Dumgoyne hill behind our distillery each winter. Initially matured in first-fill American oak bourbon casks, the spirit underwent a lengthy secondary maturation in virgin American white oak. This extensive finishing period lasted three times longer than a standard cask finish, allowing the liquid to develop a remarkably deep and complex character.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Vibrant oak, vanilla, bright citrus, sponge cake, crisp red apple, ginger spice, unripe banana and a hint of violet.

Palate: Soft and playful, crème brulee, fruit gum sweets, candied lemon, jam tarts and tinned pineapple.

Finish: Lots of toasted oak laced with caramel.

Glengoyne White Oak 24 Years Old

At 47.8% ABV and first matured in first-fill American bourbon casks, the spirit underwent a secondary maturation in virgin American white oak lasting three times longer than a standard finish. This dual-oak process is said to deliver a distinctively sweeter profile.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Rich with vanilla and toasted oak, lemon curd, honey, plum jam, desiccated coconut, spiced apple pastry dusted with icing sugar, zest of lime.

Palate: Gently balanced with intriguing depth, bright lemon and key lime pie, honeycomb, gentle tropical notes, soft oak that warms with hints of star anise, chocolate and vanilla.

Finish: Long and well-aged, toffee apple, delicate citrus and lingering oak.

Glengoyne Mizunara Oak 16 Years Old

At 53.4% ABV, this expression was matured for a decade in Glengoyne’s classic first-fill sherry and refill casks, the spirit sas then transferred to rare Mizunara oak casks for an additional six years—an extensive finishing period far longer than industry standards.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Spiced apple, baked sponge cake, light hazelnut, coconut, mandarin, peach, soft toffee, oak and lime.

Palate: Soft, rounded, silky mouthfeel, sweet almonds, stewed pear, more lime, crisp oak, milk chocolate truffle, vanilla and a hint of baked banana.

Finish: Long with cream covered fruits, sultanas and a lasting nuttiness.
