GlenAllachie Rolls Out Meikle Tòir Peated Whisky in Singapore

In partnership with Asiaeuro, the Asia-based importer of craft spirits and boutique brands, The GlenAllachie Distillery has announced the launch of its Meikle Tòir peated whisky series in Singapore.

Initially launched in the UK in 2023, Meikle Tòir—which intriguingly means "big pursuit" in Gaelic—represents a pivotal moment in the distillery's journey under the ownership of Billy Walker since 2017. Walker is a widely respected master distiller with a commendable track record in the Scotch whisky industry, has been pivotal in transforming The GlenAllachie. Since its re-emergence as a single malt brand in 2018, the distillery has grabbed the spotlight, even clinching the World's Best Single Malt title at the World Whiskies Awards in 2021.

With the Meikle Tòir series, Walker is venturing into relatively uncommon territory for Speyside with a peated whisky, a style of whisky that Speyside is not traditionally known for.

The production of Meikle Tòir is a meticulous process. The spirit undergoes a long fermentation period of 160 hours before distillation, followed by maturation in a variety of high-quality barrels—ranging from American ex-bourbon and virgin oak to Oloroso Sherry barrels, depending on the expression.

All Meikle Tòir whiskies are bottled at high strength, non-chill filtered, and with no added colour. Despite all being aged 5 years, each expression boasts a lively peaty profile that's intended to offer a rich experience before the peatiness mellows with age.

The Meikle Tòir range consists of four expressions, each with its own character:

The Original: A pure peated experience, matured in a mix of first-fill Bourbon, Rye, and American virgin oak casks at 50% ABV. It promises a sweet oak profile with layers of smoke, ginger, marzipan, and cinnamon.

The Sherry One: Finished in Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso Sherry casks from Spain and bottled at 48% ABV, this rich, fruit-forward expression combines the warmth of peat with the depth of sherry casks.

The Chinquapin One: Undergoing a two-stage maturation process, first in American ex-bourbon then in Chinquapin oak casks from Missouri, it's bottled at 48% ABV. The result is a sweet aroma of caramel fudge and toffee.

The Turbo: The most exclusive of the lot, with a very limited quantity available. Crafted from spirits distilled from a very narrow cut range for the highest phenol content, it's aged in a combination of medium-charred American virgin oak and first-fill Oloroso hogsheads, and bottled at 50% ABV. The Turbo showcases a complex peat character.

Each bottle in the Meikle Tòir series is adorned with hand-drawn designs by Scottish illustrator Ian McIntosh, featuring Speyside's natural landscapes and its highest peak, Ben Rinnes, symbolising the series' deep connection to the region.

If you're based in Singapore and eager to get your hands on this distinctive series, the Meikle Tòir Peated Single Malt Whisky Range is available through GlenAllachie’s official Singapore distributor, Asiaeuro Wines & Spirits

We ourselves have had a taste of the Miekle Tòir and found it delicious – particularly the flavourful Turbo.
