Foursquare To Debut Parallel 'Lost Cities' Series Starting With 19 Year Old Mark I Antioch

Founded in 300 BC, Antioch became one of the most important cities of the ancient eastern Mediterranean. The city declined to relative insignificance during the Middle Ages due to warfare, repeated earthquakes, and a change in trade routes. The remains of the ancient city of Antioch are mostly buried beneath alluvial deposits from the Orontes River.

What a great surprise! Just last month, we finally got a teaser of what's to come after beloved Bajan rum-maker Foursquare's iconic Exceptional Cask Selection (ECS) series had finally drawn to a close after some 18 years and 31 releases. This of course takes the form of the new Foursquare Mythical Cities series, which is set to kick off with the Mark I  Lyonesse, paying tribute to the British land of Arthurian folklore - it is said to be the site of King Arthur's final battle against Mordred!

And now, it seems like we won't just have one series to look forward to, but two! Here comes the parallel running Foursquare Lost Cities series!

Now as ancient history would have it, Antioch was a major ancient Greek and Roman metropolis in the northern Levant along the Orontes River - this triangulates to modern day Antakya, Turkey! Founded by Seleucus I Nicator, a general to Alexander the Great, Antioch was designated as the capital of the Hellenistic Seleucid Empire and eventually the capital of Roman controlled Syria. It would gain much prominence, and at its height was the third largest city in the Roman Empire, with over half a million residents, and notably pioneered the use of public street lighting! It's also widely cited as the cradle of the Christian faith and was where the followers of Jesus were first called "Christians". Unfortunately, the key city would eventually pass through many hands, from the Byzantines to the Persians and Crusaders, which ultimately saw its decline. Today, Antakya, Turkey is best known as a UNESCO Creative City that is popular for its local gastronomy, ancient Roman mosaics and co-existence of numerous faiths!

Getting back to the rum at hand, the upcoming Foursquare Lost Cities Series Mark I Antioch is a whopping 19 Year Old Single Blended Rum that's been aged in ex-Bourbon, and is set to be bottled at 58% ABV.
