Four Roses has launched the inaugural release of its new Experimental Series, a limited-edition Bourbon finished in Japanese Mizunara oak casks.
The collection represents a major shift toward innovation under Gallo's ownership, pushing past the brand's historic 10-recipe framework.
The first release, Four Roses Experimental Series No.001, is a Kentucky straight Bourbon made with a rye-forward OBSK mash bill and aged for six years.
To unlock the best pairing for Mizunara oak’s layered, spicy notes, the brand ran trials experimenting with everything from recipes and yeast strains to custom barrel designs and precise char levels.
Presented in a 375ml bottle, the release pays homage to the brand's heritage with a front label inspired by the Four Roses Distillery’s Spanish Mission architecture in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. The back label features one of its historic single-story rickhouses, highlighting the profound impact of maturation and barrel finishing on the whiskey's character.
Coming in at 53% ABV, Experimental Series No.001 will be available at the distillery’s visitor centre in Lawrenceburg from 30 July, with an MSRP of US$55.

The release comes on the heels of Four Roses' new ultra-premium annual series Anthology, released earlier this month.
The series inaugural expression, Chapter One: Origin, is the brand’s oldest bottling to date. The 21-year-old Bourbon was made with the OBSF (60% corn, 35% rye, 5% malted barley) recipe.
Limited to roughly 1,200 bottles at 62.45% ABV, the Chapter One: Origin has an MSRP of US$500. It will be present for purchase at the Four Roses Visitor Centre on July 10, followed by availability at the Whiskey Row event on July 11.
