Domaine Dujac Goes Beyond Pinot Noir With Single-Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Wine enthusiasts might want to take note of this! Domaine Dujac's French winemaker and co-owner, Jeremy Seysses has ventured into the Napa Valley to craft a new single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon.

Otherwise known for his expertise with Pinot Noir, he partnered CEO Carlton McCoy Jr MS of Lawrence Wine Estates back in 2020 to begin a project called Trailside Vineyard.

The vineyard where the wine is derived from is a plot on Rutherford's east side in the Napa Valley, boasting volcanic slopes to sandy riverbanks and granite boulders. In the 1970s to 1980s, the vineyard (owned by McCoy) was the core source for Spring Mountain Vineyard’s well-received Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

The pair describes the wine as a ‘terroir-driven, age-worthy style that is an homage to Napa Valley’s glory days of the 1960s and 1970s’.

Seysses said that each climat of the vineyard was fermented separately, reflecting a ‘high-risk, high-reward approach’. Other techniques employed that boldly defy convention in Napa highlighted are the incorporation of whole clusters and a submerged cap in the fermentation.

Trailside Vineyard will join the Lawrence Wine Estates portfolio, which also includes historic Napa winery Heitz Cellar and Bordeaux second growth Château Lascombes.

A first release of the debut 2022 vintage will take place on 26 February 2025, with wines allocated to Trailside Vineyard members. No price statement was disclosed.
