Christian Drouin's Cult Experimental Series Goes Chichibu Angels

Christian Drouin, a foremost innovator where it comes to Calvados-making, has now added to its cult Experimental Series what is perhaps its most exciting expression - the Christian Drouin Chichibu Angels!

The Christian Drouin Experimental Series has featured numerous high profile collaborations with spirit makers from around the world and in the form of a vast array of spirits reflecting the nuances and intricacies of the world of drinks. Through these collaborations, Christian Drouin has aged or finished its Calvados in various casks from those once holding Springbank Scotch whisky to that of the fabled Caroni rums. Other high profile experimental casks include those from Calle 23 Tequila, Foursquare and Hampden rums, as well as Hine Cognac, amongst others.

This time, with the Christian Drouin Chichibu Angels, Christian Drouin has finished its 12 year old Calvados in 5 Chichibu Japanese single malt casks for between 4 to 10 months. This has thus resulted in what the Calvados maker calls a pure tension between roasted apple power, powdered grains finesse, and the refined touch of Japanese oak. It is said to feature a sculpted palate, tight finish with a watchmaker’s precision.

Chichibu is of course the highly revered Japanese single malt whisky that's been the hottest thing since sliced bread where it comes to Japan's whisky scene, having broken the mould in 2004 (operational since 2008) when it became the first craft Japanese whisky maker in decades to come on the scene. As the story goes, founder Ichiro Akuto had gotten into whiskymaking originally as a means to save what was salvaged of his grandfather's distillery, Hanyu, and yet found himself making impeccable whiskies that have become highly collected and sought after ever since its fateful debut that fetched great worldwide acclaim.
