Chivas Regal's Takumi Reserve Sees Masuizumi Sake Finishing

Scotch blended whisky brand Chivas Regal is releasing a Takumi Reserve that will see its Scotch blend finished in ex-Sake casks from Japan's Masuizumi Brewery over in Toyama, Japan.

This collaboration between Chivas and Masuizumi is not the first for the two parties, who've collaborated last in 2018 over the Link 8888, which was an exclusive release of 50 Sake bottles that were aged in ex-Chivas Regal American oak barrels.

And thus for Chivas' leg of the collaboration, ex-Chivas oak casks that were sent over to Japan where it was aged with Sake that became the Link 8888 expression, after which it was returned to Scotland where it was put to finishing components of the Chivas' 12 Year Old blend.

This Asia-exclusive is said to feature "velvet, rich flavour that’s accented by delicate freshness of juicy pears that offer a sweet and crisp note. In addition, drinkers will also find hints of cloves and nutmeg that adds a warm and aromatic complexity."

The new Chivas Regal Takumi Reserve is bottled at 40% ABV, and will be available in Japan, Taiwan, Philippines and Cambodia, priced at US$50.
