Bruichladdich Brings Back The Yellow Submarine On 25th Anniversary

Who remembers the historic and rather laughable submarine story?

Well, it goes something like this - two fishermen John Baker and Harold Hastie had found a yellow Ministry of Defence marked submersible of sorts floating at sea just off the coast of Islay in 2005. Initially the Ministry of Defence had denied that it had belonged to the Ministry and that it was lost, and so it was simply left ashore on a garden on Islay and became something of a little celebrity. The Ministry of Defence would of course later U-turn on their story and claimed it back. And so to commemorate the little Islay event, Bruichladdich would create the now legendary Yellow Submarine bottling, which were even gifted to the Ministry of Defence's staff.

And this was just one of many military mishappenings that took place with Bruichladdich! Let's not forget the original Bruichladdich WMD bottling! Alas that is a story for some other time!

Now back to the Yellow Submarine's 25th Anniversary!

For the 25th Anniversary Bruichladdich Yellow Submarine release, it'll be a 14 Year Old named Bruichladdich Yellow Submarine (Reclassified) Whisky of Mass Distinction IV The Return Of A Legend, that will be bottled at 54.2% ABV.

"Many legends have surfaced over the last 25 years at Bruichladdich distillery, to this day no one knows the real story of how the royal navy came to lose one of its yellow submarines. However, many know how it was found, and the whisky that marked its return.

When Islay fishermen, John Baker and Harold Hastie, landed the navy submersible off our shores 20 years ago, the Yellow Submarine was born. A 14 Year Old Limited Edition, originally bottled and gifted to the Royal Navy when they arrived at Bruichladdich pier to collect their lost property…

To honour the legend and our quarter century anniversary, we launch Yellow Submarine Reclassified. A layered and complex 14 year old Whisky of Mass Distinction inspired by the original recipe, matured in a combination of first fill bourbon and French red wine casks."
