New Cocktail Bar MIUS to Mark Shelley Tai's Homecoming to Hong Kong

Shelley Tai, one of Hong Kong's homegrown bartenders and fresh off her stint as Group Operations Director at the Nutmeg Collective, is set to unveil her latest venture: MIUS, a neighbourhood cocktail bar in Central. Known for her "simple things, done right" philosophy, Tai aims to redefine the cocktail bar experience in the city.

Tai's journey in mixology finds its inspiration in MIUS, a name that echoes the idea of a 'muse', reminding us that creativity often springs from quiet, everyday moments worth savouring. Starting at the age of 20, Tai dove into Hong Kong's vibrant bar scene, honing her craft at acclaimed venues like FINDS and Quinary. The years of experience behind the bars laid the foundation for her subsequent success as the Operations Director of Singapore's Nutmeg Collective, which includes Nutmeg & Clove (#6 Asia's 50 best 2024; #28 World's 50 Best Bar 2024), Last Word and Draftland.

"MIUS is envisioned as a unique space in Hong Kong where you can immediately feel connected with," explains Tai. "I want to craft a bar I would enjoy visiting during my free time. As a neighbourhood cocktail bar; I want my guests to unwind here with our great drinks, honest food, and welcoming hospitality that encourages them to stay and connect with others."

Bringing this vision to life, the new venue aims to merge precision with simplicity and pay homage to craftsmanship. The menu will feature classic cocktails with thoughtful modern twists, paired with comforting dishes that invite pure enjoyment and need no introduction. Staying true to herself, Shelley aims to present a menu that is genuinely authentic.

As for the design of the new venue, expect mid century modern decor, high ceilings that welcome an abundance of natural light during the first hours of the venue's operation, and comfortable seatings designed to foster a sense of intimacy.

MIUS is expected to open its doors in August, so watch this space for more updates.
