West Coast DIPA EXP2 | Double IPA 7.8% ABV 40 IBU HBC630, Idaho Gem, and Huell Melon hops Beerfarm WA 🇦🇺 Ordered from Thirsty Beer Shop 🇸🇬
Tl;dr Owen Wilson going “wowwww”!
I started off by saying that I’d never heard of these hops till today, but then I realised that two can be found in Full Circle’s excellent We Are Here hazy pale ale. (Which I’ve reviewed previously here.)
I like what Beerfarm has accomplished with this beer: the hop aromas and flavours take centrestage but there’s an ample malt backbone to provide body and balance (geddit? Backbone, body, balance.. geddit??)
As with many contemporary West Coast-style IPAs there’s an emphasis on dry hopping and drinkability. Kind of like that transition period between the time of “bitter hop juice” American IPAs and present-day NEIPAs.
As for who’s the winner of this contest between West and East, clear vs hazy? It’s us. We all are.
