Hard to resist a 9% beer marketed as "one to savour in front of an open fire", this is actually unlike the sweet imperial you'd expect. There's definitely the full body and smoothness you need to temper such a high alcohol level but the almond biscuit flavours after which the brew is named are largely absent. I've had a few of Canopy's stronger concoctions and whilst they're all worth a taste, some are too bitter or tart for my palate. Not so with this one which is smooth and almost chocolatey...and definitely would be most welcome in front of an open fire.
