About the Ranch Water Cocktail
Made straightforwardly with just three ingredients, Ranch Water is an iconic and well-loved West Texas concoction. Think tequila highball - consisting of tequila, lime juice and sparkling water.
The origins of Ranch Water has been attributed to old-style West Texas ranchers, who would relax by taking a swig of Topo Chico before taking a shot of tequila and chasing it with a squeeze of lime.
While it may be a Texan favourite, Ranch Water is a guaranteed thirst-quencher anywhere on Earth.
Ranch Water Cocktail Recipe
- 3 oz tequila blanco
- 1.5 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
- Sparkling mineral water, chilled (ideally Topo Chico)
- Lime wedge
Add tequila and lime juice to a chilled highball glass. Add ice and top with sparkling mineral water. Garnish with a lime wedge and kick back.
There will inevitably be debate about the brand of sparkling mineral water to use. Many Ranch Water aficionados will insist that Chico Loco is a non-negotiable. However, given that Chico Loco may be widely available in some parts of the world, we'd say don't sweat the brand.
If you're looking for a bit more flavour in your Ranch Water, consider swapping out plain sparkling water with a grapefruit or lemon sparkling water, adding a splash of triple-sec, or rimming the glass with some chili lime salt!
Happy sipping!
